Alzheimer's Research Breakthrough: New Clinical Center Opens in Scotland! (2025)

Scottish Brain Sciences Unveils New Alzheimer's Research Center at ONE Biohub, Aberdeen

Scottish Brain Sciences (SBS), a pioneering clinical research organization dedicated to revolutionizing the early detection and treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, has recently announced the opening of a cutting-edge clinical research center at ONE Biohub in Aberdeen. This new facility will empower individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and those concerned about memory issues to actively participate in studies focused on the early detection and treatment of Alzheimer's and other related neurodegenerative conditions.

The clinical research center at ONE Biohub marks SBS's third research facility, joining the company's existing research hub in St. Andrews and its Edinburgh headquarters. This expansion enables SBS to conduct clinical studies centered on early diagnosis, intervention, and precision trials, thereby advancing global understanding and treatment of Alzheimer's and related disorders.

By establishing a presence within ONE Biohub, a hub for startups and high-potential life science companies aiming for rapid growth, SBS is joining a growing network of research-driven companies, including NovaBiotics and Genomes.io, already based at ONE Biohub. From this central location, SBS will play a pivotal role in connecting brain health research with clinical and commercial pathways, further solidifying Scotland's position as a global leader in brain health innovation and contributing to the country's broader life sciences growth strategy.

The Aberdeen site was officially opened on November 14th by Lynne Carroll, a local research participant, and was also attended by Richard Lochhead MSP, Minister for Business and Employment. Lochhead emphasized the company's investment as a significant boost to Scotland's innovation economy and public health landscape.

"The people of the north-east deserve early access to breakthroughs in brain health and dementia research," said Professor Craig Ritchie, CEO and Founder of Scottish Brain Sciences. "This new site will facilitate participation in trials, advanced assessments, and contributions to discoveries that could shape the future of Alzheimer's disease. By inviting one of our research participants to officially open this center, we honor the belief that progress begins and ends with the people who volunteer to take part. They are the heartbeat of discovery."

Lynne Carroll, a Scottish Brain Sciences research participant, shared her experience: "It took several years to receive my Alzheimer's diagnosis, and this is a reality for many. By participating in research aimed at early detection and treatment, I hope to make the path clearer for others in the future. I reached out to Scottish Brain Sciences out of eagerness to contribute. When they shared plans to open a research site in Aberdeen, I was thrilled, as it means I can take part in trials that may require regular visits. It's a privilege to be involved in today's opening, and I encourage anyone locally affected by Alzheimer's to connect with the team."

Dr. Deborah O'Neil OBE FRSE, Chair of ONE Life Sciences and BioAberdeen Ltd, expressed her delight: "We are thrilled that Scottish Brain Sciences is expanding at ONE Biohub. Their focus on advancing understanding and treatment of neurological conditions adds valuable strengths to our growing life sciences cluster. The north-east has a vibrant community of life science innovators, and it's wonderful to see our first tenant growing and scaling within ONE Biohub."

This expansion is a significant step forward in the fight against Alzheimer's disease, offering hope and progress to those affected by this devastating condition.
